Bicycle Across America for the League of YES

Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity Journey of Hope 2016

One of our BUDDYs from St John’s University has joined in with the national chapter of his fraternity, Pi Kappa Phi to take a quick little bicycle ride from Los Angeles, CA to Washington, D.C. It’s a mere 2,668.4 miles of U.S. highway. Long distance truckers drive that far. The rest of us, we take trains or planes. Not Michael, he is going to plant his butt on a bicycle seat for those long miles and make a statement.

(I bicycled 100 miles from Babylon to Montauk once. It took 11 hours and I. Hurt. A lot.)

Michael Gutierrez, met up with the League of YES as part of St. John’s service day program. He and his fraternity spent one, then another, then another day as volunteers helping League of YES players play baseball. These experiences with the players of the League of YES reinforced what Michael has been taught all his life; that “we need to be gracious and empathetic individuals”. Michael’s experiences with the League of YES prompted him to join in with his fraternity’s national chapter and bicycle across the nation to promote awareness and raise money for the “Ability Experience“. Michael has chosen the League of YES and all it’s players as his inspiration for this journey.

Michael has detailed his reasons behind this journey in the link below. Please read through it and consider helping Michael meet his fundraising goal. It’s BUDDY’s like Michael and his fraternity brothers that are helping to bring awareness and opportunities to the special needs community and the League of YES.

 But wait, there’s more.

Ask yourself this question; if you were inspired to do this ride by a group or organization, wouldn’t it be great if people from that organization were there at the end of your journey to cheer and congratulate you? That’s exactly what we thought too. So, we are hoping to get players, families, Coaches, Executive Team members, Board members and anyone else interested in a weekend in Washington D.C. to welcome Mike at the end of his 2,668.4 mile odyssey.
